2009 - 49th GENOVA International Boat Show

Sorry for postponed the blog for a long time, I was busy working on final project and traveling, within a gap of next trip, I will share what i experienced as i can....

Fiera di Genova launched the International Boat Show in January 1962, Now it became the biggest and most important boat show in Italy.

we took exclusive shuttle from Aquarium and went into the marina of boat show directly.


Properly not enough space in marina, some yachts be moored outskirt and be able to approach closely including WallyPower 118(middle)^^

Surprise! I witnessed SeaForce One in the corner of berth as well.

WHY - Wally-Hermès Yachts

French luxury clothing designer Hermès and Monaco based yacht maker Wally have collaborated to create the ultimate luxury yacht.
The 38-meter-wide yacht takes the WallyIsland concept forward with dramatic silhouette that comes with a triangular hull shape that doesn’t features a superstructure.
Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Artistic Director of Hermès said: “The WHY 58X38m yacht looks very unfamiliar but it remains on a human scale. Space is the greatest luxury on the sea, but I believe the new luxury will be the time to enjoy it.”

Royal Falcon RFF135 by Porsche Design

Porsche Design has unveiled its latest collaboration with yacht builder Royal Falcon Fleet,based in Singapore, a 135 ft. catamaran.

RFF's debut model, is crafted for the new generation yacht owner. The RFF135 is their first joint venture which has reached the first milestone of the construction.

The $58million craft features 472 square metres of interior space, accommodating 10 passengers and 10 crew members.

“Our newest project once again demonstrates that our design, outstanding in many ways, is setting trends in numerous fields. With the first Royal Falcon Fleet yacht, we are building a bridge to the Porsche Design Sport textile collection that was developed specifically for the maritime area” says Dr. Jürgen Geßler, CEO of Porsche Design Group.

Imagine Leadership -Presentation Design


Intro -
Nitin Nohria and Amanda Pepper of Harvard Business School's Leadership Initiative collaborated with XPLANE to create this video in order to generate a discussion of the value and importance of leadership to address some of societys most pressing problems.

"It is my desire to inspire people of all ages and social demographics to think about leadership on a broad level, contemplate what it means to them and what individual impact they can have when it comes to leading," says Nohria.

"Advantage through Technology" - Audi Yacht


Audi Daysailer
Audi exemplifies the essence of German minimalist elegance. Never known for pretentious or over the top designs, the Ingolstadt, Germany company has stuck to their “Vorsprung durch Technik” or “Advantage through Technology” philosophy since day one.
Designer Markus Klug used Audi’s minimalist approach to automotive design to create this cross-over water yacht concept. In his words: “I wanted my design to be clear and direct, but also luxurious and sport…It has to captivate the onlooker at first glance, in precisely the same way that the cars do” The 25-year-old student said that he drew his inspiration from his passion for sailing with the Audi MedCup, a regatta series in the Mediterranean for TP52 yachts.

Measuring in at 15 metres in length, with a mast of 21 metres high and a draught of between 1.5 and 2.5 metres, this ultra-yacht has sex appeal measuring off the charts and will surely be a plus in the automotive design world.

Solar X yacht -Swiss company

According to Code-X, “unites radical purism, the optimal benefit of renewable energy and the sheer power of a racing machine in one boat.” The 47-foot yacht draws power from twin Ilmor Formula 1 engines, each delivering 710hp, enough to take the yacht to 80 knots. along with a bank of solar cells that store power in on-board lithium ion batteries.

The sleek catamaran also gets touchscreen controls and a GPS-controlled virtual anchor that will keep it in place using the electric motors without having to physically put down the anchor.<<<< Very curious how to work?!!!

The Peri 37 reflects Peri's ultramodern style, where strong lines and aggressive allure hint at the vessel's exhilarating speed. Despite its aerodynamic profile, the Peri 37 offers far more deck space and interior volumes than most vessels of its size.
Thanks to the 8.10 m beam and lighter, high-tech construction, the living surface is comparable with that of a yacht in the 40-metre range. The fly bridge provides a natural setting for fashionably oversized sofas, sun-beds and Jacuzzi.

125m 7Cs superyacht -Drive Design Studio

The studio was founded in Venice in 1989 and is run by Carlo Nuvolari-Duodo and Dan Lenard, the former an engineer and the latter a designer, who over the last few years have created some of the most interesting projects. Nuvolari & Lenard, which recently opened a new design centre in Scorzè, Venice, is able to offer a complete range of services, from the concept of layouts to exterior design and interior décor, as well as marine architecture and engineering.

Q:請大略介紹公司組織與職別
A:公司創立1989,Lenard 負責外觀設計與內裝Nuvolari負責Engineer部分,近幾年才搬入這個新總部,幕後員工-Valentina Zannier 是室內設計總監,Simone是Project Supervisor監督所有案子流程.3~4位工程師負責內外Layout, 2位3D設計師,一位負責外觀modeling,另一位曾待在Lancia汽車的負責設計駕駛台及局部內裝modeling,1位多媒體設計師負責Presentation編排與多媒體事宜,還有2~3位工程師常駐在遊艇廠內提供最直接的協助. Run Project時須密集討論, 員工也常依狀況互相支援.

Q:簡略介紹此設計中心的Layout
A:外觀就如大家所視,建物分地上2層地下一層,大門進來的大廳算是展示間, 展示已完成案子的報導,手繪設計原稿,Yacht Models,二邊便是Interior展示區,規劃約13區不同的室內風格,使客戶很容易找到喜歡的Style,地下層是茶水間+模型室,所有成"形"的想法會先在這間小工作室成"型", 再與客戶討論.2樓有2會議室,其中一間擺滿裱板與大圖是討論Layout,流程,大方向,後面是私人辦公室,Valentina室內總監辦公室旁邊的會議室則是充滿成櫃的布料與大理石材,室內五金,所有內裝都在這搞定,金屬玻璃梯另一頭是主要辦公區,左邊有圖書室,所有檔案,報導,文件有系統的歸檔,辦公室盡頭的為開放工作空間,使員工討論更方便

Q:請介紹設計流程,分享說服客戶的技巧
A:目前委託的客戶已經很明白公司的風格,所以沒甚麼好說服的,我們說甚麼是甚麼.當然我們有一套謹慎的設計流程---當國際broker或金主提出需求與規格,我們便著手設計外型,如果是產品線,我們會規劃一系列Family Looking,從最原始的船型像金字塔往下發散,分支出由小到大完整的演進圖,如果要以哪家遊艇為假想敵,會把目前市場相同等級的競爭者做詳細的比較,你必須對遊艇市場很敏感,並持續追蹤,如此才能看到大方向.

當船體完成初稿,開始做小模型, 在動手製作期間,很多細節或靈感會一直跑出來, 透過手才能清楚瞭解曲線變化,讓型體更成熟, 當與客戶溝通時模型也是相當完美的工具,避免認知的落差,這比平面圖或在螢幕看3D模型好多了,我們很重視這個環節,甚至已定案的模型會拿去3D Scan/逆向工程,對後續3D建模幫助很大

當外觀大致定案,內裝便開始進行.其實一開始構思外觀同時,腦中已自然浮現內裝空間了. 室內設計我們喜歡手繪,客戶也很認同,甚至會把設計圖裱框掛在遊艇內展示

如果有比較複雜的角度,會局部建3D模,甚至做1:1斷面模型, Mechaincal方面像伸縮平台一定做1:1的模擬,因為需測試運作角度,應力,人因工學等.接著就是布料,石材,裝潢材質的選用,我們一直尋找新的材質提供客戶參考,如果客戶有自己的藝術收藏也會納入規劃

後續才會用3D rendering彩圖,運用在presentation,提供客戶發新聞稿,接生意...and so on.

Q:請問一艘遊艇外觀或內裝哪個是優先考量?
A:當然是先考慮外觀!!想像耗資數千萬歐元的巨型遊艇是富豪炫耀財富的玩具, 更別說經營遊艇事業的國際brokers,都希望他們的船從裡到外都像藝術品,能吸引最多的目光!

A: 其實我們做的事跟其他Design Studio沒甚麼不同,成名前後始終如一.對遊艇總是保持熱情,花很多時間生活在船上, 思考遊艇相關的事,探索各種新的可能

Q:目前已完成最大的遊艇
A: "Vibrant Curiosity" - 85meter. shipyard-Oceanco

Q:可否透露目前進行的幾個案子
A:手頭有7~8個projects同時以不同速度進行, 與Oceanco Yacht合作110meter的"Giga"-yacht今年將會定案, 德國Lürssen Yachts新的鋼船, 還有個特別案子-幫威尼斯規劃新的遊艇碼頭....and so on

Conclusion/結論
Dan-Lenard是很健談的設計師, 對所有手頭的工作內容毫不藏私的仔細介紹, 分享遇到難題及解套之道,Nuvolari相對像內斂的謙謙君子,或許如此巧妙的配合,與對遊艇固執般的熱忱才是領導公司走向成功的關鍵吧!相信往後在豪華遊艇的設計領域上, Nuvolari & Lenard 的銀色招牌依舊閃亮!
